PayPay Introduces 'Other-Brand Card Vouchers' for Non-PayPay Credit Cards, Direct Payment to End in August
Launch of ‘Other-Brand Card Vouchers’
On July 1, 2026, PayPay announced the introduction of a new feature called “Other-Brand Card Vouchers” to allow the continued use of non-PayPay credit cards within the app. The rollout will take place gradually over approximately one month for users updated to the latest version of the app.
Under this new mechanism, users will purchase these vouchers using their third-party credit cards within the PayPay app to make payments at participating merchant stores.
Conventional Direct Payments to End in August with Key Exceptions
With the implementation of the new voucher system, the conventional payment method—which allows users to directly pay using registered third-party credit cards—is scheduled to be discontinued at the end of August 2026.
However, a strategic partnership has established an exception for the following:
- Personal credit cards issued by Sumitomo Mitsui Card Co., Ltd. (including co-branded cards such as ANA Card and Amazon Mastercard)
Users holding these specific cards will be able to continue using the traditional direct payment method even after the August deadline.
Highlighting the Advantages of the PayPay Card
PayPay continues to emphasize that its proprietary “PayPay Card” (including PayPay Card Gold) remains the only credit card capable of being registered under “PayPay Credit.” The company highlighted the seamless switching between PayPay Balance, instant usage notifications, and benefits from the “PayPay Step” rewards program, which offers up to a 1.5% return in PayPay Points.
