Leica Unveils Its Most Advanced Full-Frame Camera, the Leica SL3-P, Alongside Two New SL-Lenses

Introduction of the New Flagship: Leica SL3-P

On June 25, 2026, Leica Camera AG announced a significant expansion of its mirrorless SL-System with the launch of the Leica SL3-P, the brand’s most advanced and comprehensive full-frame camera to date. Accompanying this flagship body are two highly innovative additions to the lens lineup: the Summilux-SL 50 f/1.4 ASPH. and the APO-Macro-Elmarit-SL 100 f/2.8.

Manufactured in Germany, the SL3-P features a deliberately minimalist, understated design with blacked-out controls, omitting the iconic red Leica logo. Built for ultimate durability, its solid full-metal body comes with IP54 certification, ensuring reliable protection against dust and water splashes during professional assignments.

Exceptional Image Quality and Hybrid Autofocus

At the core of the Leica SL3-P is a brand-new 44-megapixel BSI full-frame sensor that achieves an ideal balance between high resolution and superb imaging quality. Key technical specifications include:

  • Dynamic Range: Offers up to 14 aperture stops, capturing the finest tonal gradations in challenging light.
  • Multishot Mode: Delivers extremely high-resolution, detailed images of up to 176 megapixels.
  • ISO Versatility: Features an expansive ISO range from 50 to 200,000.

Furthermore, the camera introduces a sophisticated hybrid autofocus system that combines phase detection (PDAF), depth mapping (object detection AF), and contrast detection (contrast detection AF). With an upgraded tracking system boasting 819 AF points, smart subject recognition, and continuous shooting up to 40 frames per second with full AF support, the SL3-P captures fast-moving subjects with absolute precision.

Professional Video Capabilities and Seamless Workflow

For filmmakers and hybrid creators, the SL3-P brings extensive video upgrades, enabling video recording at resolutions up to 8K. It supports 8.1K Open Gate in a 3:2 format at up to 30p, HDMI RAW 8K Open Gate, and full-sensor 8K at 30p. For smoother motion, users can leverage 5.9K recording at up to 60fps or detailed slow-motion in 4K at 120p.

Integrating the Apple ProRes codec at up to 5.8K alongside two new in-camera LUTs (Leica Pure and Leica Cine) for the L-Log color space gives production teams maximum creative flexibility during post-production. For studio and remote workflows, the camera includes native tethering support for Lightroom Classic and Capture One, Camera-to-Cloud via Adobe Frame.io, and Content Credentials technology to safeguard intellectual property via tamper-proof metadata.

Two New Cutting-Edge SL Lenses

Leica has also introduced two premier prime lenses designed to expand creative freedom:

  • Summilux-SL 50 f/1.4 ASPH. This lens stands as the world’s most compact autofocus lens with a 50mm focal length and an f/1.4 speed. Weighing only 584g and measuring 75.5mm in length, it features 11 aperture blades and 2 aspherical lens elements to offer sharp subject isolation and smooth, natural bokeh.
  • APO-Macro-Elmarit-SL 100 f/2.8 Paying homage to the historic 1987 Leica APO-Macro-Elmarit-R 100 f/2.8 classic, this new macro lens brings flawless apochromatic correction across the image frame. It offers a close focus distance of 30cm and a 1:1 reproduction ratio, making it an excellent choice for both microscopic detail and telephoto portrait photography.

Availability and Pricing

The Leica SL3-P is available worldwide starting June 25, 2026, at Leica Stores, the Leica Online Store, and authorized dealers for a recommended retail price of €5,990.00 including VAT. Three dynamic lens kits are also available at launch, starting from €6,990.00 for the SL3-P 28-70 Vario Kit.

The Leica Summilux-SL 50 f/1.4 ASPH. and the Leica APO-Macro-Elmarit-SL 100 f/2.8 will arrive on the global market toward the end of 2026, priced at €4,500.00 and €2,450.00 (including VAT) respectively.
