Nikon Unveils Z5IIC Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera for Beginners and Everyday Creators

Nikon Corporation announced the release of the Nikon Z5IIC, an FX-format full-frame mirrorless camera built around the Nikon Z mount. Engineered to balance high-end optical performance with approachable controls, the camera targets creators and first-time full-frame users seeking high image quality in a portable form factor.

Dedicated Scene Modes and Instant Imaging Recipes

In a first for Nikon’s full-frame mirrorless lineup, the mode dial incorporates dedicated Scene Modes. Users can choose from 15 scene presets—including portraits, pets, food, night landscapes, and twilight—and the camera automatically adjusts white balance, Picture Control, and exposure parameters.

The body also adds a dedicated physical button for Nikon’s Imaging Recipes. Users can load color profiles developed by Nikon and professional creators directly to the camera, producing stylized photos and video straight out of the camera without post-processing.

Flagship-Grade Processing and Enhanced Stabilization

The Z5IIC integrates a backside-illuminated CMOS sensor alongside the flagship EXPEED 7 processing engine. Its deep-learning autofocus system detects humans, animals, and vehicles, with a dedicated “Fish” detection mode introduced for the first time.

In-camera vibration reduction (VR) delivers up to 7.5 stops of compensation at the center of the frame, aiding handheld capture in low-light environments. The camera achieves continuous shooting speeds of up to approximately 14 fps, extending to 30 fps when using the High-Speed Frame Capture+ mode with Pre-Release Capture.

Streamlined Hardware and Video Capabilities

The body features a smooth, streamlined top plate designed to slide in and out of bags without snagging. Available in black and silver finishes, the chassis incorporates magnesium alloy in structural components and includes weather-resistant sealing against dust and moisture. A 3.2-inch vari-angle touchscreen supports smartphone-style touch gestures for playback and shooting.

For content creators, the camera supports 4K UHD video up to 60 fps (DX-crop) and Full HD up to 120 fps. Additional production features include:

  • Product Review Mode: Automatically prioritizes focus on items held up to the lens.
  • Plug-and-Play Streaming: UVC/UAC support allows direct USB connection to a computer as a webcam.
  • Advanced Color Profiles: Support for 10-bit H.265 (MOV) and N-Log recording for expanded dynamic range in post-production.
  • Status Indicators: A visible front REC tally lamp and a red on-screen frame clearly signal active recording.
